55: Do You Dread Spring Cleaning or Love It?
===
Welcome to episode 55 of Permission to be Messy. I'm your host, JoAnn Krall and today I'm wondering. What do you feel when you hear the phrase spring cleaning? Some people have told me they get excited. They love the feeling of being able to tackle the windows, the window treatment, the sills, the, the tops of all their doorways, all the knobs, the lights, switches. All of those little details, the cobwebs and the ceilings, just all the nooks and crannies, and that really excites them.
But other people tell me that they don't like it. It overwhelms them and I've even heard people say they, they dread hearing it because they've got so much clutter. They can't even keep up with regular cleaning. So the thought of tackling all of the things that people talk about during spring cleaning. It just completely overwhelms them..
And this can happen for several reasons. It could be, you just simply have too much clutter. Or you're just not in a cleaning routine. So you're barely keeping up with a regular cleaning. Which is completely normal, day to day lives. it's not always easy. I know for myself, I love to clean, but I got to a point where I was getting burnt out because I would clean my entire house and then I wouldn't do anything for awhile. It would feel so good, but I wasn't doing daily maintenance and other than dishes, and things like that. But then it would just get overwhelming again. And that was fine when I was younger and it was also fine before I had kids and it was just me and my husband. Once you get more people around, it gets harder and harder.
And now I have to admit my daughter does pretty much all of the cleaning in our house.
I do the dishes. I keep up with my own room.
But I even get stressed out about, the idea of spring cleaning and all of the things. that you have to think of
I mean, if you have cluttered surfaces, the thought of dusting makes you cringe. If you have cluttered floors, the thought of sweeping, vacuuming, any of that, even mopping, it's completely overwhelming .
And let's not even talk about all of the drawers and the cabinets and the closets. tackling these spaces isn't easy. It's not easy to clean you can't clean around clutter.
So I have a couple purposes for this episode. I know I've been talking so much about paper and digital. That is really the heart of what I help people with. But I also have a very unique process to help you clean and declutter on a daily basis so that when you get to the spring cleaning time, you may not be excited about it, but you'll be able to do it because it'll be easier. But also, I want to let you know. if you're being flooded with all the spring cleaning, like this episode, this may be evoking things for you. If you've been. bombarded with all the spring cleaning messaging. And you're not even keeping up with what you have.
Don't worry about the spring cleaning. Let it go. Don't worry about it. if you've got dust at the top of your doorways and if your lights, switches have fingerprints on them and your doorknobs, don't worry about that stuff. Get yourself into a better routine before you even worry about that.
So I just wanted to give you a little bit of encouragement today that you're not alone if spring cleaning stresses you out, whether you have a clean home and you just don't want to do the spring cleaning. Or you can't even fathom doing it because of all the clutter. And I am going to be on April 1st running a program that I created back in. I actually created an actual structured program in 2015. But it was born out of doing some stuff on Facebook, even prior to that.
And it's around the process that I take myself through, really somewhat for me, more so now for decluttering and keeping the clutter at bay. Because, like I said, I have somebody who's doing a lot of the cleaning with me, but if you struggle with the cleaning part too, this could help. So if you're interested, I'm going to put a link in the show notes for a wait list so that you can be notified when I set up the offer, I haven't set up all the details yet. But essentially it's my 29 day process to go through the living areas of your home.
So we're going to start on April 1st. I know I'm being a little bit wild here because that I believe is the first day of Mercury Retrograde. So we might have some tech issues. But we'll get through it. I'm actually going to go through the process myself with you live.
It's a process that I use all the time as maintenance for myself. It's also a process for you to reduce as much clutter in your living areas of your home, so that you can feel lighter and you can get in a routine so that you can then go and tackle, your attics, your basements, your garages, maybe your vehicle, but also your spring cleaning.
So if we get this through April, maybe you'd be able to do some spring cleaning this year and you'll feel lighter because honestly, spring cleaning is important. It's important for our health because when there's dust and mold and all the particles in little nooks and crannies of our house, it affects us overall.
My goal for you is to actually get to the point where spring cleaning, you may not love it, but you may not dread it so much. So again, in the show notes, there'll be a link. for a wait-list,And I'm going to create this link right now, so that if you don't want to go to the show notes, You can go to joannkrall.com/29days and you'll be able to enter your name and email, and that'll get you on the wait list so that you can be notified no obligation, but if you're thinking you might be interested in this, you'll get the information when I release it.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me my information is always in the show notes, how to contact me. And I hope that spring is truly here for us soon because I know many of us have been dealing with snow. even though spring is technically here. But, for those of you listening across the world, it may be heading into winter for you.
And you know, spring cleaning is just a term. We can do the spring cleaning whenever we don't have to do it in the spring.
And as always, I'm wishing you much progress, peace, purpose, and the permission to be messy. Thanks for listening.
